I'm guessing/hoping someone at Microsoft made a teensie error in the registry and it slipped by. Though before this I could rename them by using "Properties", and editing the file within that. That got me thinking, and long story short, by switching the icon size from "small" to either a bigger size or Tiles I was able to regain the ability to rename files and folders. If the previous filename was still in the editing mode then you will automatically be editing the next filename. Press the Tab key to flick down to the next file in the folder. Anyway, the other poster said they fixed their problem by disabling slide show. Click on a file name twice ( not doubleclick) to begin renaming it.

I would like the same behavior of windows explorer where I can single-click with the left button on an item to rename it.
